When the listing for Tuey Connell cropped up in the Rudyard Schedule, the first impulse was to classify him (?) as a Chicago blues-oriented singer-songwriter. First impressions, of course, can be wrong, and in the case of the Tuey Connell Trio, the act that will be at the Rudyard Kipling on February 18, that impression was well wide of the mark. Mr. Connell works in the crooner field, covering American classic songs a la Harry Connick Jr. But wait! As the pitchmen say. He also sings da bluz, composes and plays the banjo! Nat Cole with a banjo? Yeoowww. All his press stuff is slick, so expect really good songs sung in a dark baritone. Can't say how the banjer fits in.
