The week in music: Critics' concert picks for May 21-27 May 21, 2004
Might the next great male jazz singer be a converted banjo plucker who used to do jingles by day, and work with bluegrass and Irish-trad bands at night? Strange as it seems, guitarist and songwriter Tuey Connell has a great shot at joining the pantheon of super-swingin' baritones. Recalling everyone from ballad master Johnny Hartman to neo-swing teaser Dan Hicks, returns with his fine young New York trio and guest pianist David Hazeltine.
(8 p.m. Wed.-Thu., Dakota Jazz Club. $12.)
